Kiwi seed |

|
Kiwi seed comes from kiwifruit, a popular cultivar fruit of the woody vine Actinidia deliciosa. Kiwifruit , once known as Chinese Gooseberry was first commercially popularized in New Zealand, and has since been known in the western world as kiwifruit, or simply kiwi. Kiwifruit is rich in vitamins C, A, and E. It also has substantial potassium content. The brown hairy skin of the fruit is rich in flavonoid antioxidants. The seed is also very active. One of its main constituents is quercitrin and kaempfenol. The constituents of kiwi seed aid in liver ailments, inflammation, complications with diabetes mellitus, skin ailments, difficulties associated with aging. Kiwi seed extract has also been classified as a source of antioxidants (Matsuda, 2002). The seed of the fruit is perhaps the most beneficial and versatile part of the kiwi fruit.
Several studies have been performed to prove the efficacy and efficiency of kiwi seed extract. One study revealed that quercitrin and kaempferol aid in the symptomatic relief of certain liver diseases (Matsuda, 2002). Quercitrin exerts its antiinflammatroy ability by acting as the precursor to quercetin in the body, thus inhibiting the expression of NF-? B and iNOS (Camuesco, 2004). This leads to decreased inflammation in the body, which is beneficial to those suffering from chronic inflammatory diseases. In skin studies, improvements were seen acne, appearance of wrinkles, skin moisture, and hyperpigmentation. In studies on subjects suffering from acne both oral and topical supplementation of kiwi seed extract led to decreased appearance of inflammation. |
