Mangosteen
Mangosteen also known as the “Queen of fruits” in certain parts of Asia is an emerging functional food used for its striking anti-oxidative abilities. The active constituent Mangostin has been found to be quite effective in the inhibition of lipid oxidation, particularly LDL cholesterol. An in vitro study attributed this benefit to Mangostin’s ability to act as a free radical scavenger. This activity indicates that Mangostin can be used as a combatant against the onset of atheroslcerosis (1).
