Curcusol™

Turmerin, a main active component in Turmeric, has been suggested to exert positive effects on the body comparable to those of Curcumin.  A study done in The Department of Nutrition and Food Safety found that Turmerin can serve as an effective antioxidant, DNA protector, and anti-mutagenic.  Turmerin forms only .1% of Turmeric’s dry weight and exists in a crystalline structure.  Despite its low concentrations Turmerin offers 80% protection against oxidative damage even at nanomolecular levels and does not show cytotoxicity in milligram concentrations.  In addition the molecule is heat stable with insensitivity to trypsin, pepsin and UV radiation (Srinivas et al, 1992).  The versatility of this component is enhanced substantially by its complete solubility in water.  It seems the possible applications of this constituent exceed those of Curcumin, which is virtually insoluble and shows the same antioxidative activity as Turmerin only in much more substantial doses.

Despite Curcumin’s popularity, its incorporation into many health foods is limited.  It is only completely soluble in fat, but this generally creates conflict in the functional foods arena, as many companies avoid adding unnecessary calories in accordance with the growing popularity of low-fat diets.   There is no doubt that the large-scale commercialization of this material could revolutionize the functional food industry.  Turmerin, though relatively unknown today, contains some very promising characteristics that ensure its success as both a powerful and versatile antioxidant.

HerbaKraft, Inc. offers the highest quality Turmerin in a concentrated standardized extract.  Curcusolcontains 5% Turmerin in a 10-15:1 ratio.  Curcusolis well suited for health beverages, foods and capsules.  Curcusolcan easily become an effective addition to any health product.
